Generating and Submitting Sitemaps

In order to get a sitemap up and running on your website, there are a few simple steps; generate a sitemap, upload it on your website and then notify search engines of its existence. Sounds pretty simple right? That’s because it is. It’s so simple that everyone should be doing. To be honest, we’re not sure why everyone isn’t doing it.

There are a couple of different ways to generate a sitemap: download a sitemap generator or use an online sitemap generation tool. The first is more difficult but it does have its advantages. You will have greater control over the end result and output. You can download the Google sitemap generator online. The process is pretty straightforward: once you have downloaded the package, follow the instructions. The second method of sitemap generation is easier. There is a multitude of free online tools that will do the trick. A quick Google search will bring up plenty of different options.

Once the sitemap is created, upload it to your website. Then, let Google know that it’s there. To notify Google, you will need to add your website to your Google Sitemaps account (so if you don’t already have an account, create one today).
